A legendary gull-winged coupe that was far ahead of its time; the grandfather of modern-day sportscars; the coupe that would go on to prove as one of the most, if not, the most pivotal sportscar to be made in the 20th century moving forward. With all that said, what makes this coupe so special you may ask? Apart from its elegant and pristine 50's automotive styling, the 300SL was in the most layman terms, a production version of the race-dominating W194 racing coupe which would be used by Daimler-Benz (currently known as Mercedes-Benz) to win their first ever victory at the 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans, on its debut race. Powering the 300SL coupe was a 3.0L SOHC inline-6 that utilized the same mechanical fuel injection system used on the W194 racing car. At the time, this was a first for a production car. As a subsequent of this advance technological system, the engine was able to produce an upwards of 212hp at around 5000rpm. Although having considerably heavy mass as far as cars at the time go for (weighing around 1300kg), the 300SL was also one of the best performing sportscars in the world, thanks to its masterclass powerplant. As a matter of fact, the 300SL would go on to be dubbed the fastest production car to be ever made at the time, with a top speed of 263km/h (163mph) which for the early-mid 50's was something that was anything but ordinary.
